exactly the same sound, cured by fitting a manifold gasket…
sounded like a very loud sewing machine, engine not pulsing correctly with the exhaust system, once it was at speed the noise pretty nuch got quieter..
took it to a garage it took about 4 hours labour plus 25 quid parts and also i needed 2 engine studs.. total cost £148.00

Sounds like it could be a leak at the header. It makes the same kind of noise. Have had many 924s and twice had to replace gaskets at the manifold or header if they replaced the stock manifold.

could u reply quickly about your further experience…i am buying a cheap 2nd hand car tomorrow, the seller said there is ticking sound only when warming, and none after it while driving or accelerating….is this something that would cost thousands of dollars to fix on a 92 ford falcon or it is relatively cheap = under $300, appreciate advise quickly, thx.

Yes, it is a 4 cyl. It isn’t one of Porsche’s traditional 6 cyl boxter engines. Its a inline 4, over head cam.

is it a 4 cyl? does not sound like a real boxer(porsche) motor

seriously, what does CIS stand for? CONTINOUS INJECTION SYSTEM, hence the injectors are always squirting out fuel!!! it doesnt flood because the fuel distributor regulates the amount of air and fuel going into the engine… go read a book! before you start giving people the wrong advice

Ya, it is his tappets. I checked his profile, and he must of adjusted his tappets. His other video shows his car running a lot quieter.

I mean no offense to you. I’ve been driving and working on the 924 for 10 years. When the engine is running, fuel is constantly spraying out of the injectors. The fuel distributor regulates how much is sprayed (based on intake air flow) by altering the pressure in the injector lines.
If a valve is adjusted way too loose the ticking is from the impact as the cam lobe hits the lifter. Yes there could also be an oil delivery problem…But that noise is not coming from the fuel injectors.

dude i have a 924. the injectors are not constantly on if they were then the cylinders would flood. the only way the valves would tick that bad is if there was no oil getting up to the cam. if you want to test for this take off the cam cover and put a tall piece of cardboard on each side then start the car. DO NOT REV. go and check, if there is oil spirting out then the valves arent the problem

Incorrect. 924 has continuous fuel injection. They make absolutely no ticking noises. Most likely this is the valves way out of adjustment.

O_O ..Tries to regulate the valves!
