SCCA Autocross Event #5 2009 • Porsche 924s • John Run 4
This is footage from the fifth event of the 2009 Northwest Region SCCA Autocross series. The event took place at Hampton Mills in Packwood Washington on June 21, 2009. You’ll notice that the car is not my usual Miata 10AE, but a Porsche! My co-driver Glen Hernandez offered his car for the event, and I was happy to take the opportunity. It’s a 1988 Porsche 924s Club Sport. With an extra 10 horsepower and an amazing extra 40 foot pounds of torque compared to my Miata, it matched this course very well. The long stretches of acceleration, and overall lack of transitions, made this car a much better choice for the event. Jerry Jenkins commented that in the Northwest Region, we don’t have rain tires, we have rain cars! Well, I don’t know about the rain, but that’s pretty much true. If given the chance, of course I’ll take the better car for the course! Now if I could just get the hang of driving my own car fast, I’d be set… Seriously, the only events I have won this year have been in other people’s cars… (Thanks Rick V. and Glen H.!) This was my fastest run at 55.177 seconds. I grazed a cone going into the chute, but it somehow stayed upright, and touching the box. (Whew! Lucky…) Indexed, this put me 14th overall for the day, and 1st in class! Boo-Yah! Take that S2! Here’s a link to the results: www.wwscc.org

This photo may be the first uncovered shot of the fabled Porsche Cayman Shooting Brake seen in video games and spy photos . We want to believe. From the photo it appears there is a lighting gaffer doing his best to light the car during a photo shoot in advance of —if real — what we’d expect to be an unveil at the Frankfurt Motor Show
